On Friday, September 18, the Teofista Boxing Series returns to the Deerfoot Inn and Casino for a ten round, all-Canuck showdown between Canadian welterweight champion Steve “The Dragon” Claggett (21-3-1, 14KOs) of Calgary and once-beaten British Columbia prospect Stuart “The Westcoast Warlord” McClellan (12-1-3, 3KOs).
“This is a big fight for western Canada,” explained Promoter Eric De Guzman. “We are in talks with several championship sanctioning bodies at the moment. It will be a special fight!” Claggett is undefeated against Canadian opponents.
Most recently, the highly touted Calgarian successfully defended his national welterweight crown with a ten round unanimous decision over former titlist Tebor Brosch. McLellan is looking to bounce back after suffering the first loss of his professional career last March against Ryan Wagner, a man Claggett stopped in 2012.
In other action, Canadian cruiserweight contender Jordan Smith (3-0-1, 1KOs) of Calgary returns for four rounds or less with Taylor Bull (2-4-0, 2KOs) of Hobbema; Canadian amateur champ Alex Rynn (1-0-0) of Calgary makes his second professional appearance, taking on Ontario ring veteran Dave Aucoin (3-13-0, 1KOs) of Hamilton in a lightweight four rounder; Mike Smallwood takes on Chris Chapman over four rounds or less at middleweight; and Roxie Lam (5-1-0, 3KOs) will all be in action against an opponent TBA.
Doors open at 7:00. The first fight begins at 7:30. Tickets available at www.teofista.com or by phone/text, 403-681-0094.
