Teofista Promotions is proud to announce the return of undisputed Canadian welterweight champion Steve “The Dragon” Claggett (20-3-1, 14KOs) in an exciting, ten round, national title defense against former champion “The Mighty” Tebor Brosch (7-6-5, 2KOs) of Mississauga, Ontario, on April 3 at the Deerfoot Inn and Casino in Calgary, Alberta. After a razor thin decision loss to undefeated Russian prospect Konstantin Ponomarev (27-0-0, 13KOs) in January, “The Dragon” is particularly hungry for victory against Brosch, who represents one of the champion’s toughest domestic challenges to date.
“I’m very proud of my performance against Ponomarev,” explained Claggett. “I feel like the decision could have gone either way. Before I head back to the international stage, I need to take care of business here in Canada. I’m excited to be making my mandatory defense against Tebor. He’s been in with the nation’s best and is a former champ. His fights are always exciting, just like mine. Put us in a ring together and there will be fireworks! I think this could be one of the best fights Calgary has seen in a while.” Team Teofista plans on having Claggett defend again in the near future, when the Teofista Boxing Series returns to Calgary’s Chinese Cultural Centre in the spring. Rumour has it that the fight will be offered to the winner of the Stuart McLellan-Ryan Wagner bout slated for March 20 in Edmonton.
At cruiserweight, undefeated Teofista prospect Jordan Smith (2-0-1, 1KO) takes a step up in competition to face Rob Nichols (6-2-1, 4KOs) of Edmonton in a six round tilt with serious championship repercussions. After two bouts in Ontario, Smith exploded onto the western fight scene last November with a second round stoppage of Ty MacDougall (3-5-2, 2KOs). Nichols is looking to return to the win column after suffering his second career defeat against former Canadian amateur champ Didier Bence (10-2-0, 3KOs) of Repentigny, Quebec, in October. The winner of Smith-Nichols will likely be on the fast track for one of the Canadian titles, currently held by Sylvester Louis (NCC) and Frank White (CPBC).
In other action, undefeated Teofista super featherweight Roxie “The Ram” Lam (4-0-0, 3KOs) will be looking to spoil the pro debut of Leo Samarelli of Vancouver, British Columbia, in a four rounder. If successful, Teofista will try to arrange a NCC title shot for Lam in the not too distant future. Last, but not least, Teofista super lightweight Connor Bush (0-0-1) makes his second pro appearance against an opponent TBA. Bush is looking for his first pro win after battling to a draw with savvy nine fight veteran Devonte Donaldson in November.
