With a current professional record of 27-2-1, Akron, Ohio native, Shawn Porter has been boxing since he was a young child. As an amateur Shawn Porter put together an astonishing record of 276-14, beating notable pro prospects and champions Daniel Jacobs, Demetrius Andrade, Edwin Rodrigues, Shawn Estrada, and Willie Monroe Jr. before turning pro in 2008.
In 2008, “Showtime” Shawn Porter set out on a quest to become a multi-division world champion, starting his career off as a Middleweight before gradually moving down to compete at Welterweight; one of, if not the most competitive division in the sport of boxing.
“Showtime” Shawn porter won his first pro title, WBO NABO Light Middleweight against Russell Jordan on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights on February 19, 2009. After successfully defending his title 3 times before moving down to face tougher competition.
On October 15, 2010 Porter moved downed to campaign as a Welterweight and immediately won the NABF welterweight title. Porter continued to move up the ranks in the welterweight division making several successful title defenses and winning the WBO NABO title in 2012, the NABO and IBF North American title in 2013, before losing a controversial majority decision against Kell Brook.
In 2015, Porter came back stronger and more motivated than ever to become one of the best welterweights in the world beating the likes of Erick Boné and dominating fellow Ohio Native, Adrien Broner, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Premier Boxing Champions which was televised on NBC; one of his most notable wins to date.
In 2016 “Showtime” Shawn Porter went on to face Keith Thurman on prime time for the WBC title. The bout was the first televised fight on CBS in over 30 years and generated over 4.5 million in viewership.
On April 22, 2017 Porter returned to the Barclays Center to face and ultimately stop Andre Berto in a WBC title eliminator.
“Showtime” Shawn Porter will be back at the Barclay Center facing off against Adrian Granados on Saturday, November 4, 2017 as the co-main event and expects to bring fireworks as he always does.
