Robert Garcia’s Herbert Acevedo Makes Weight

Robert Garcia trained Herbert Acevedo returns to his hometown for his latest professional fight, and where he made his professional debut on Nov. 6, 2009, the beautiful state of Kansas. His anticipated return has brought out a mild frenzy among ticket purchasers which includes family and long time friends. “I’m excited to be back, excited to be the main event, and excited to fight for the belt,” Acevedo said on Friday. “Being able to fight for the UBF title is special.”

Acevedo (10-1, 5 KO’s) will face the always durable battle tested iron chinned Marcos Herrera (6-10-1, 2 KO’s) for the UBF Midwest and Kansas state titles Saturday night.

Herrera despite his record comes in as a very dangerous fighter. Herrera losses come against mostly undefeated prospects whose records combined read 95-11-4. Herrera has been knocked out twice in his career once by the current WBClightweight title Omar Figueroa and WBA Fedelatin light welterweight titlist Michael Perez.

Acevedo has been training under the tutelage of Roberto Garcia of Garcia Boxing Academy in Oxnard, California soon after his professional debut, and has put up an impressive 10-1 record as he has built his resume. When asked about his return and his history he quickly credited current Garden City Boxing Club’s Juan Aldana Jr., the late Buck Avila and Manuel Rios, Brandon Rios’ father, for teaching him the skills of the sport at an early age.

“They were great trainers and got me and Brandon and Victor (Ortiz) and others started,” Acevedo said.
