Hollywood, CA (June 2, 2016) Top Rated and Undefeated Lightweight Contender Richard Commey, 24-0-0 (22KO’s) has arrived at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida to witness the IBF World Lightweight Championship between champion Rances Barthelemy and former world champion Mickey Bey.
“I’m next up for the winner who I think will be Barthelemy, he’s the champion and a more skilled fighter. I don’t think Bey can beat him,” said the 29-year-old Commey.
“I’m the mandatory challenger for the winner and I’m ready to become champion, that belt will be mine whichever one I face.”
Currently ranked #3 with the top two positions being open, Commey will be facing the winner of the June 3rd showdown in the near future.
“Richard is ready and we’ll be working with our promoter, Sauerland Promotions next week to finalize the details for the fight with the winner,” said Michael Amoo-Bediako, Managing Director of Streetwise Management who is with him in Florida.
Commey made the most of his U.S. debut on May 22 2015, stopping once beaten Russian contender Bahodir Mamadjonov in the eighth round in Las Vegas. The brilliant nationally televised performance earned Commey the vacant IBF Inter-Continental Lightweight Title.
Shortly following his victory for the title, the IBF asked that he vacate the Inter-Continental Lightweight Title with the promise of a mandatory challenger position fight which has not taken place, therefore leaving Commey next in line to fight for their World Lightweight Title.
In his last two starts, Commey has scored two additional knockouts, a fifth round stoppage of Kakha Avetisiani on October 17, 2015 in Germany and a second round knockout of Anzor Gamgebeli on March 19, 2016 in Denmark.
