Las Vegas’ hottest new location, the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center, will play host to “Knockout Night at the D”, an outstanding evening of outdoor professional boxing presented by Square Ring Promotions and Championship Title Boxing on Friday, May 22 set to air on CBS Sports Network (1:30am ET/10:30pm PT, re-air on May 23, 10:00pm ET/ 7:00pm PT).
Headlining the inaugural event is a world-class 10-round lightweight clash between hard-hitting and undefeated RICHARD COMMEY of Accra, Ghana and highly skilled southpaw BAHODIR “Baha” MAMADJONOV of Houston, Texas.
The bout will be contested for the vacant International Boxing Federation Inter-Continental Lightweight Title.
In a special attraction bout, undefeated light heavyweight MIKE LEE will return to battle and then join Hall of Fame commentator AL BERNSTEIN and his partner BARRY TOMPKINS on the televised call of the main event.
Live from the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center (DLVEC), adjacent to the D Las Vegas Casino Hotel, advance tickets priced at $59, $39 and $26 will be available May 5 through the D Las Vegas Box Office (phone 702-388-2111) and Ticketmaster (tickemaster.com). World ranked #9 by the International Boxing Federation and #14 by the World Boxing Association, the 28-year-old Commey has compiled a sterling record of
21-0-0 with 19KO’s, since turning professional just four years ago.
Commey has been dominant in his first two starts in 2015, a fourth round knockout of Mikheil Avakyan on February 7th in Denmark, followed by a seventh round stoppage of Thompson Mokwana in South Africa on March 14th.
This will be Commey’s first appearance in the United States.
The 27-year-old Mamadjonov, fighting for the first time in 2015, sports a record of 17-1-0 with 11 knockouts while riding a six-bout winning streak against top opposition.
This will be Mamadjonov’s second clash in Las Vegas, having won the WBA International Lightweight Title on April 12, 2013 with a ninth round stoppage over Angelo Santana.
Graduating from the University of Notre Dame at the top of his class with a degree in finance, Mike Lee has built a record of 14-0-0 with eight knockouts while serving as a spokesman and being featured in numerous national commercials for Subway and Under Armour.
Currently training in San Diego, California with former heavyweight world champion CHRIS BYRD, Lee is coming off the most dominant victory of his career, a devastating second round knockout of Gary Tapusoa in New York City on February 14 where he also joined the CBS Sports Network telecast team for the remaining bouts.
