Proceeds to Benefit Non-Profit Organization
GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Section Live and Two Fists Promotions are uniting again to bring an exciting night of boxing to Grand Rapids. Wintertime Warfare, February 22 at The DeltaPlex Arena, will be an evening filled with action featuring West Michigan athletes and their equally skilled opponents. A portion of the proceeds from this event will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation in honor of National Cancer Prevention Month. Familiar names from last October’s boxing event at The DeltaPlex, Slugtoberfest, will be reappearing on the bout sheet for February 22.
Jordan Shimmell, from Hudsonville MI, defeated opponent Galen ‘Bad Boy’ Brown of St. Joseph, Mo. last October for the United States Boxing Organization cruiserweight title. Shimmell (12-0, 10 KOs), ranked #5 in the U.S. for the cruiserweight division by BoxRec.com, will be fighting against a TBA opponent.
Johnny Garcia, from Holland MI, will also be making another appearance at the February boxing event. Garcia (18- 1, 11 KOs) defeated Blake Franklin of Shreveport, La. for the USBO junior welterweight title at Slugtoberfest. Garcia’s opponent is also TBA. “At the last boxing event both Garcia and Shimmell had great fights,” said Joel Langlois, owner of The DeltaPlex Arena.
“This next event will bring them another step closer to the boxing careers they have been working so hard for.” Other probable boxers include: Purnell Gates (26 – 2, 15 KOs) from Grandville, MI; Lane Staal (11-0-1, 5 KOs) from Canton, MI, and Vincent Jennings (3-0-1, 3 KOs) from Grand Rapids, MI. Other athletes competing in the event are TBD.
Doors open at 6 p.m. and the fight begins at 7 p.m. Advance general admission tickets are $25, floor seats are $35. VIP tables are also available. Parking for the event is $7.
