Pro Boxing Returns To Glendale, Ca December 6th

Top Rank, in association with Bash Boxing, Art of Boxing Promotions, and the Glendale Civic Auditorium in Glendale, California, brings Solo Boxeo Tecate on Unimas back to the “Jewel City” on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 6:00pm.

After a nearly sold out event in August, organizers expect an even bigger turn out with the announcement that former WBC and IBF Junior Flyweight and WBO and WBA Flyweight World Champion, Brain “The Hawaiian Punch” Viloria (34-4, 20KOs), will appear in a Special 10 Round Feature Attraction. The Filipino-American superstar and longtime Freddie Roach trainee, is 2-0 in 2014 with a 5th round KO victory over Jose Alfredo Zuniga on July 19th and a 10 round unanimous decision victory over Juan Hererra on March 29th. Viloria, who lost the WBA and WBO Flyweight titles to current Champion Juan Francisco Estrada (30-2, 22KOs), looks to end the year undefeated and then regain his world titles in 2015 or set up a blockbuster bout with two-time Olympic Gold Medalist, China’s Zou Shiming.

Glendale Fight Night VI will feature some familiar names to the growing legion of boxing fans in Glendale as two recent World Title Challengers, Lightweight Jose Felix Jr. (27-1-1, 22KOs) and Light Welterweight Anton “The Pick Hammer” Novikov (29-1, 10KOs), appear in separate 8 round bouts.

Mexico’s Felix Jr., who stopped Alejandro Rodriguez (21-14-1) in an all-action bout on the last Glendale Fight Night show in August and challenged current World Champion Brian Vasquez (33-1, 17KOs) earlier in April, will take on fellow Mexican warrior Luis Solis (15-5-4, 12KOs) on December 6th in Glendale.

Russia’s Novikov challenged WBA Light Welterweight Champion Jessie Vargas (25-0, 9KOs) in August at the Cosmopolitan Hotel where many ringside observers and fans watching on HBO felt Novikov did enough to win the World Title. Novikov looks to wipe away his first loss in 30 professional bouts by returning to Glendale where he had prior success in August 2013 with a shutout decision victory over Robert Frankel (32-13-1).

Another familiar face to the Jewel City faithful will be 2012 London Olympics Silver Medalist Esquiva Falcao (5-0, 3KO). The fast-rising Brazilian Middleweight stopped Malcom Terry (6-3, KOs) in the 2nd round the last time he appeared in Glendale and picked up another 2nd round knockout victory last month against Austin Marcum (6-5-1, 3KOs).

The city of Riverside, California will be well represented at Glendale Fight Night VI as undefeated Robert Garcia trained Super Featherweight Top Rank prospect, Saul “Kid Dinamita” Rodriguez (14-0, 11KOs), CMC Management’s Daniel “Twitch” Franco (8-0-3, 5KOs), and Luis Silva Management’s Danny Ruiz (2-2) make their Glendale Fight Night debuts.

Ruiz takes on Anthony Rescigno Management’s Gloferson Ortizo (1-0-1) in a four round Light Welterweight bout. Ortizo, from Santa Ana, is trained by fellow Filipino Marvin Somodio, chief assistant trainer to Freddie Roach at Wildcard Boxing Club. Franco will put his undefeated record on the line against Joe Goosen pupil and Los Angeles transplant from Spain, Cesar Martinez (4-3-2), in a six round Super Featherweight bout. While Rodriguez will face an opponent to be determined as the opening 8 round bout of the televised Solo Boxeo Tecate portion live on Unimas.

Rounding out the undercard will be the return of El Monte undefeated Welterweight Arnold Barboza Jr. (3-0) and the professional boxing debut of Freddie Roach protégé, Cem Kilic. Barboza, a former amateur standout, will be returning to the ring after a one year layoff. Kilic, the Light Middleweight German product who now calls San Diego his second home, has been making waves at the Wildcard Boxing Club as a favorite to be the next in a long line of Champions to emerge from the world famous gym.

GLENDALE FIGHT NIGHT VI, takes place on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at the Glendale Civic Auditorium, located at 1401 North Verdugo Road in Glendale, California.
