Top welterweight title contender Shawn Porter loves interacting with his fans. And the fans love meeting Porter. He was one of several “Premier Boxing Champions” series fighters who showed their appreciation to boxing fans this past Saturday afternoon in Las Vegas at the third Box Fan Expo.
Thousands of boxing fans waited in line for several hours to get autographs and pictures with Porter, Featherweight World Champion Abner Mares, Middleweight title contender Daniel Jacobs and contenders Alfredo Angulo, Chris Arreola, Rances Barthelemy and Oscar Escandon at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
“It means so much to me to meet and speak with Shawn Porter fans, PBC fans and just boxing fans in general,” said Porter, who spent more than four hours working the crowd of fans who waited for their chance to get face to face with him. “I felt extremely humbled to have the long line I had. I was glad everyone was patient and waited. And I stayed until there was no line left. I want to extend my appreciation to all of the fans who showed up, and all of the fans I had the opportunity to meet.”
“Fans are what makes this sport,” said Mares, one of the fan-favorites at the Expo. “Their dedication, their knowledge, meeting them – the kids to the adults – and hearing them talk about my journey, my fights, it reminds me that I fight for them as well as myself and my family.”
The Premier Boxing Champions booth was one of the more popular stops at the Expo, which was held at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Fans were treated to giveaways as well as the opportunity to meet their favorites boxers.
“It’s very important for boxing fans to be able to meet their favorite PBC boxers in person. It enhances their experience when they see them in the ring, because then they feel like they have a personal connection,’’ said Tim Smith, Vice President of Communications for Haymon Boxing. “It was particularly heartwarming to see the boxers interact with the many children who attended the Expo. The boxers also had their spirits lifted to feel so much love and support from their fans.’’
