Due to visa issues with Philippines Rocky Fuentes and Mark Acub, the card Noche de Campeones DIRECTV that it supposed to be held on Saturday, December 7, at the Humacao Arena in Humacao, Puerto Rico, was postponed for January 25, 2014.
Peter Rivera, Vice president of PR Best Boxing Promotions (PRBBP) said that for the problems in Philippines after the devastation caused by the Typhoon Haiyan, Fuentes (rival of McWilliams Arroyo) and Acub (foe of Jose “Chelo” Gonzalez) will not get their visas on time to fly to Puerto Rico.
“The issue is that two fighters of the main bouts won’t be in Puerto Rico in time because the interviews for the visa are delayed in Philippines and the fight between McWilliams Arroyo and Rocky Fuentes is an eliminatory for the #1 in the IBF rankings, and we can’t change this bout. So, we postponed the card to January 25, 2014, when we will present the same show that has been announced”, Rivera said.
Headlining the show, the 2009 Amateur World Champion and 2008 Olympian, McWilliams Arroyo (14-1, 12 KOs), will face Fuentes (35-6-2, 20 KOs), in an International Boxing Federation (IBF) eliminator flyweight fight for the #1 ranking spot. McWilliams twin brother, McJoe Arroyo (13-0, 7 KOs), a 2008 Olympian and 2007 Amateur World Championship bronze medalist, will fight in an IBF eliminator bout for the #2 place in the super flyweight rankings, against Dominican Eliezer Aquino (15-0-1, 9 KOs). In the lightweight division contender Chelo Gonzalez (22-1, 17 KOs) will face Mark Acub (13-0, 10 KOs) for an IBF regional title in a fight scheduled to 10 rounds.
Also in action, Luis “El Artesano” Cruz (20-2, 16 KOs) in a lightweight 8 round fight; prospect John Karl Sosa (8-0, 6 KOs) in a bout scheduled to six rounds in the junior welterweight division; Bernard “Bimbo” Lebron (2-0, 2 KOs) in a 4 round fight in the lightweights and debutant Jose Lopez in a 4 round fight in the junior lightweight division.
