By Daniel Mole: Steven Pearce believes he is in the shape of his life as he prepares for a maiden defence of his Midlands Area Welterweight Title. The 28 year-old takes on fellow Stourbridge scrapper, Sam Eggington, at The Venue in Dudley this coming Friday. And, after a 7 week training camp ‘The Fierce’ is ready to do battle.
“I’m feeling in the shape of my life,” Pearce told www.uko-boxing.com. “I feel sharp and fit. My diet is spot on and because I’ve had a full training camp I’ve been able to just drop a pound (lb) a week, so physically I’m 100%.
“I’ve sparred fighters similar to Sam like Kyle Spencer who is tall and rangy and Andrew Robinson. We have a game plan that we’ll stick to.
“This is my belt. I’m the champion and that’s how I want things to stay. I know it wil be a tough fight but I’m prepared for that. I’m ready. I hope Sam is.”
Tickets are priced at £30 unreserved seating and there are still a handful of VIP tables, priced at £60 (Ringside) to include a three-course meal (tables of ten). They are available from The Venue Box Office on 01384 453 101.
Joining Eggington and Pearce on the bill is undefeated Dudley light middleweight, Kyle Spencer (5-0). ‘The Style’ who recorded a first knock-out of his professional career last time out, faces durable Birmingham scrapper, Andrew Patterson.
Cradley’s Chris Male (11-1) also returns to action for the first time since his English title defeat at the fists of Josh Warrington in December. ‘The Punching Postman’ takes on durable Slovakian, Elemir Rafael.
Northampton featherweight Ashley Lane (3-3-2) steps in to replace Dudley’s Dean Anderson and he takes on Scottish scrapper, James Ancliff.
Birmingham’s undefeated super middleweight Andrew Robinson (5-0) completes the bill against tricky Lincoln fighter, Jody Meikle.
