Hollywood, FL., March 1, 2013 – Panther Promotions, LLC. returns to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL., on Friday, March 15 for the first of a three fight boxing series that will feature an action packed light heavyweight bout and showcase some of the local favorites from the Florida area.
This exciting night of world class boxing will be headlined with a 10 round main event pitting 175 pound light heavyweight Rowland Bryant 16-2, 11KO’s fighting out of Altamonte Springs, FL. against the tough and hard hitting Cuban Yunieski Gonzalez, fighting out of Miami, FL. Bryant and Gonzalez are considered to be prospective world champions. Both fighters are known for their hard punches and excellent boxing skills, making for an exciting night of boxing.
The fight card will be broadcasted in High-Definition, and televised by Regional Sports Networks across the U.S. to over 50 million households.
Rowland Bryant (16-2, 11 KOs), hails from St. Augustine, Fl., and currently resides in Altamonte Springs, FL. In April of last year Bryant faced the tough and experienced Librado Andrade (30-4-0) in what many expected to be a tough and difficult fight for him. By the second round he had Andrade in trouble and went on to finish him off in the 3rd round via a TKO.
Feeling extremely confident following his win over Andrade, on August 10 he faced Thomas Oosthuizen (19-0-1) for the International Boxing Organization Super Middleweight title at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City. Fighting at 168 pounds though, proved to be challenging, having experienced difficulty in making the weight. Oosthuizen proved to be a formidable opponent, a lanky fighter with excellent boxing skills. Bryant went on to lose a 12 round unanimous decision. “I underestimated his boxing skills and was overconfident coming off the win over Andrade,” stated Bryant. “I did not pressure him sufficiently and allowed him to remain in his comfort zone. I will not underestimate any opponent, especially Gonzalez who punches with power and is a cagey fighter”, added Bryant.
Yunieski “El Diamante” (The Diamond) Gonzalez (10-0, 6 KOs), originally from Piña del Rio, Cuba makes his home in Miami, Fl. Having left his young son and parents in Cuba with the hopes of being a better provider, he takes every fight as though it were for the world title.
Gonzalez fought Daniel Adotey Allotey (14-2-0) in November of 2012, and outclassed the more experienced contender winning by knockout in the 2nd round. “He was tough and rough, but I was tougher and I really wanted the victory”, stated the young Cuban.” I don’t allow any opportunity to go by because I have sacrificed a great deal to get to this point. I take nothing for granted”, added “El Diamante”.
Tickets cost $, $84, $54 and $34*. All seats are reserved and available at all Ticketmaster outlets online at www.myhrl.com, www.ticketmaster.com or charge by phone: 1-800-745-3000. Doors open at 6:00 pm ET and the fights begin at 7:00 pm ET. *Additional fees may apply.
Eliot Alvarado, CEO of Panther Promotions and a member of the Seminoles stated, “We are very proud to be presenting some of the great young talent from Florida in this sensational night of world class boxing as part of the Seminoles. I know that fight fans are frustrated and disenchanted with the state of boxing today. I am dedicated to doing all that is necessary to help build these young men and women and help give them the exposure they need”, added Mr. Alvarado. “We intend to make a significant difference in boxing promotions as well as the other areas we will be promoting,” added the CEO of Panther Promotions.
Harold Weston, Director of Operations for Panther said, “We are the new generation, determined to reinvent boxing. Panther works with trainers and gyms from around the country that have stables of top quality prospects. We look at our company as the Madison Square Garden for fighters and are committed to presenting the real talent in boxing today. We see the same fighters, the top names but the best fights are hard to make because of contractual conflicts. We eliminate that obstacle and provide fighters with a secure, experienced promotional company that can help develop and showcase them on a national level without the exclusive contract”, added Weston.
Benny Collins, President of Panther Promotions, who has been in boxing for many years and serves as President of Panther, is excited that he, Eliot and Harold have come together to present such tremendous opportunities to young up and coming fighters as well as provide promotions whose tickets are reasonably priced allowing fans to enjoy a full night of entertainment at the fight and in the casino.
