Walsall light welterweight, Luke Paddock, is set to fight for a first title in his hometown in March.
The 22 year-old prospect goes in search of Bronze Masters honours when he takes on Stoke’s Kevin Hanks at Walsall Town Hall on Saturday, 1st March.
The former Priory Park ABC star has recorded five straight victories since switching to the professional ranks and is delighted to be competing for a belt so early in his fledgling career.
“I’m honoured to get any title shot so early in my career,” Paddock told www.uko-boxing.com. “I’ve only had five fights, so this has come as a nice surprise.
“This is the first rung of the ladder and to get a shot so early in my professional career is great. I never thought I’d be fighting for a belt after five fights and for it to be taking place in Walsall, my town, is amazing really. I’m not going to let the opportunity pass me by.”
Paddock and Hanks both fought – and won – at Walsall Town Hall back in September. ‘Cool Hand’ Luke recorded a points victory over veteran Kristian Laight whilst Hanks was victorious against Sid Razak.
The Stoke scrapper has lost more than he’s won – 2-4 – but Paddock is certainly not taking his opponent lightly.
“I always respect my opponents,” added Paddock. “Funnily enough, when we fought at the Town Hall in September, we shared a dressing room. Kev seems like a nice lad and I don’t think his record does him justice.
“He’s a tough, strong fighter who will come to win.
“With a title being at stake, he’ll be bang up for this one. I don’t know too much about him as a boxer but I’ll be researching him and making sure I have the right game plan to get the win.”
Tickets, priced at £30 and £60 Ringside, are available from Walsall Town Hall Box Office on 0845 111 2900.
Topping EJKO Promotions’ March Mayhem show is the vacant British Masters Welterweight Title fight between Stourbridge’s Steven Pearce and Sheffield’s Ryan Hardy.
Coventry’s Midlands Area super featherweight Champion, Troy James, Dudley light middleweight, Kyle Spencer, Halesowen super middleweight prospect, Lennox Clarke, West Bromwich light middleweight, Tom Stokes, Wolverhampton super featherweight, Des Bowater, Stoke’s welterweight, Josh McLaren, all feature on the undercard alongside three debutants – Coventry light middleweight, James Montgomery, Birmingham cruiserweight, Ollie Lambert, and Leicester welterweight, Ryandeep Nandha.
Tickets, priced at £30 and £60 Ringside, are available from Walsall Town Hall Box Office on 0845 111 2900. The aftershow party takes place at the Pitch Sports Bar and Grill on Bradford Street, Walsall.
