BOONTON, N.J. — Aces Boxing Club is inviting the public to a free father/son boxing seminar on Sunday, July 20.
The event, which starts at 12 p.m. and will run for about 90 minutes, will be held on location at 718 Main Street in Boonton. The purpose, said club owner/head coach Joe Zabry, is to educate fathers on basic boxing knowledge, mittwork, and bagwork in pursuit of having them become a bigger part of their son’s boxing experience.
Zabry, 38, has a lifetime of experience in the sport, and hopes that when fathers leave the class, they’ll have a better understanding of boxing strategy, the scoring system, and how to drill techniques at home that will help make their sons a success in the ring.
Parents are an integral part of a young fighter’s career, he said, and the more they know about the ins and outs of boxing, the more adept they’ll be at helping their sons traverse the sport’s peaks and valleys.
“The more understanding that you have at home, the stronger the support system for the youth boxer – who is still developing both mentally and physically – is going to be,” he said. “And it’s all the more encouragement that that kid will have to pick up his gym bag and go to the gym.”
The clinic will be free, but donations to the club are always appreciated and will go towards Aces’ youth programs.
