The Cardiff light-welterweight is back in the ring at the York Hall in Bethnal Green on Friday, May 29 and to prepare, he’s been sparring brother Gary.
Gary, British super-featherweight champion between 2011 and 2013, is set to have his first fight of the year in Newport on Friday, June 13.
Mitchell said: “We don’t have bandages, gum shields, headguards – or even rounds. We just fight until one of us gives in.
“It’s really, really tough. Nobody in Britain can match Gary for workrate and it gets so tiring hitting his gloves all the time.
“(Trainer) Tony (Borg) likes to be there when we spar to make sure it doesn’t get out of hand. It’s always very competitive when we spar.”
Buckland also used to share a ring with top women’s amateur Rachel Pritchard – until he married her !
He said: “We used to spar a bit before we got together. Rachel used to hit me in the body – and I felt her punches. She was good. Rachel won the Welsh title and boxed for Wales, but she met me and that spoiled her boxing career I’m afraid !”
Buckland’s own ring career stalled following a six-round points win over Daza Usher at the Motorpoint Arena last May.
He spent 11 months out of the ring before linking up with Mo Prior and under his Warrior Promotions, Buckland has got his career moving again.
In April , he was a four-round points win over Victor Edagha in Bournemouth and later this month, Buckland looks to make it nine wins out of nine.
“I wasn’t getting any fights until I met up with Mo,” said Buckland. “I was getting promised fights, but they kept falling through.
“I owe Mo and I’ve told him I’m going to be his first champion.
“I’ve already got the Celtic lightweight title and now I’m with Mo, I’m looking for bigger titles soon.”
Buckland was on the brink of a British-title shot last month.
At just a few days’ notice, he was offered a fight with Tyrone Nurse for the vacant British light-welterweight title and he accepted.
But boxing bosses decided that without enough time to monitor Buckland’s weight loss, the fight couldn’t go ahead.
