Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) Female World Super Welterweight Champion Mikaela Lauren (20-3, 8 KOs) of Sweden is set to defend her title on March 27 at the Gota Kallare in her hometown Stockholm.
Lauren will face reigning South African Middleweight Champion Esther Mashiya (8-3-2, 1 KO), who will be moving back down in weight for the opportunity to challenge Lauren.
All this was announced by the champion on Monday February 24, along with the fact that she will also be acting as promoter of the event, billed as “Fighting Spirit”:
“I like the challenge of promoting a very good show”, said Lauren. “I have great passion for the sport, and I want people to have a really nice experience.”
Lauren captured the UBO world title in October 2012 against Serbian Eva Halasi, who later went on to win the IBF Welterweight world title.
In July of last year the Swede lost a world Middleweight title-challenge against Germanys Christina Hammer, by decision, but is now back at her natural weight and stopped Hungarian Rita Kennesey in two rounds last December.
Esther Mashiya turned pro in 2008 and won the S.A. national title at Super Middleweight the following year. In 2011 she captured the same championship at Super Welterweight, and last April she became a three weight South African titlist when she won the Middleweight crown.
Despite the tough opposition, Mikaela Lauren is expecting to put on her best performance to date, saying:
“I recently changed my main trainer to Leffe Carlsson, and I have great joy and satisfaction when I am in the ring. Leffe has taught me a new style, which suits me nicely, and I think I will fight my best fight ever against Mashiya.”
