MGM Marbella News: Gary Sweeney; Liam Smith; Tshifhiwa Munyai

MTK Global - 20/08/2015

MGM´s newly signed Gary Sweeney will be making his pro-debut in South Africa on 19th September on the undercard to Hekkie Budler who will defend his WBA and IBO minimum weight titles against Simphiwe Khonco.

Sweeney, the seven-time Irish champion, who is managed by MGM and promoted by South African Golden Gloves is keen to get started in the professional game. He is currently training at MGM Marbella and will team up with a local trainer in South Africa two weeks before the big day.

“I am really looking forward to getting started,” he said “It shouldn´t feel different but it does, I want to show everyone what I can do!”

LIAM SMITH TO FIGHT FOR WBO LIGHT-MIDDLEWEIGHT TITLE

MGM´s Liam Smith will be taking on French Michel Soro on the 10th October in Manchester to win the WBO light-middleweight title. The unbeaten Liverpudlian will be fighting on the rescheduled Andy Lee – Billy Joe Saunders bill that is now being dubbed “World War 3.”

Smith will be contesting the vacant title that was taken from Demetrius Andrade in the US due to inactivity and is an amazing opportunity for Laim. “I´m buzzing with the world title opportunity,” he said “every fighter waits for the phone call, its all about timing and this is a great time for me.”

He is determined to become world champion but he is not resting on his laurels; he knows he has a tough fight ahead of him. He has sparred with Soro before so he is aware of his opponent, “we will both have to be at our best to win, whoever doesn´t turn up, will lose, simple as that!” “But I´m 100% confident that if I turn up with my A game then I will be a new world champion!”

On the same bill, MGM´s Tom stalker will be fighting Craig Evans, and it is not to be down-played as on most line-ups such a fight would be chief support. The two are equally matched and it promises to be a toughly fought bout. Stalker said “I´m putting in the work, I am going to give this camp all I have got. It is exciting to be part of such a big night of boxing and I am going to make sure it counts for me with a win.”

MGM Fighters in Preston 12th September

MGM Promotions together with Harrison Promotions are putting on another exciting show of professional boxing. It will take place on Saturday, 12th September at Evoque Nightclub in Preston, Lancashire. MGMs Jake Hanney and Sean Creagh will be in the line-up.

The bill is headlined by IBF International title and Commonwealth title final eliminator fight between Tshifhiwa Munyai and Oscar Chauke. Dubliner Sean Creagh will be back in the ring following his debut victory in June, he is looking forward to getting back in the ring, “I´m looking forward to getting back in there,” he said “and seeing the improvements me and my coach Stephen Kavanagh have been working on. It has gone well and I am ready for whatever my fight brings”.

Jake Hanney will be making his debut with MGM following his recent signing. Keen to get going since recently returning from Australia Jake is ready for the fight and hoping to add to his impressive record of 4 wins with 4 KOs. “I´m ready to break into the top 15 world rankings next year and this fight will put me one step closer, training has gone really well and I am fitter and stronger than ever.”
