Challenger Mfusi Maxhayi ensured that his early prediction of a knockout win came true when he demolished now former champion Bulelani Nama in two rounds to lift the World Boxing Federation (WBF) Intercontinental Bantamweight title on Saturday, April 26, in Qumbo, S.A.
Currently rated the number three bantamweight in South Africa, Maxhayi floored Nama in the first round with a vicious right hand, but the champion recovered and made it through the first stanza.
However, Maxhayi tasted blood and came out fast and furious in the second and continued to punish Nama until referee Allen Matikane called a halt to proceedings two minutes into the round.
Although the smaller man, Maxhayi (8-5-1, 4 KOs) showed great skills and tremendous power, and looks headed for bigger things if he progresses at this rate.
Promoter was Siphato Handi and his Mamali Productions.
