NEW YORK CITY (June 5th, 2014) – Blue-Chip prospect Ryan Martin is preparing to enter the ring for the sixth time in his professional career this Friday, June 6th at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Upstate New York.
In his most recent fight, the Tennessee rising star scored a four round unanimous decision victory over Misale Chacon (1-3). The fight, promoted by Mike Tyson’s Iron Mike Productions, took place on April 18th in Monroeville, PA.
“I am really grateful that Iron Mike Production’s extended the opportunity to be a part of their show. I’m even more excited that we are going to do it again. I expect to give the fans the best of Ryan Martin and a very explosive performance. More so, I’m extremely grateful that Fifty Cent is allowing me to stay active and showcase my talents throughout various locations and promotional events,” stated Martin.
SMS Promotions has big plans for the 21-year-old. Martin will appear at 50 Cent’s 2nd Annual Birthday Bash on July 2nd at the Grand Theatre in Fox Tower at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut. This will be his first televised ESPN Friday Night Fight and he is scheduled to be in a four round match with an opponent soon to be determined.
“I think that SMS is expecting huge strides from me. Rather than feeling pressured, it just drives me to push harder. I live, eat and sleep boxing. It’s been a dream of mine to be a World Champion and it only makes it even more rewarding when my team expects me to be one as well,” added Martin.
Consistency is certainly a part of the plan for Martin. Since turning professional in September of last year he’s compiled 5 wins with 3 of those victories coming by way of TKO. Manager, Tim VanNewhouse mentioned additional opportunities to come for Martin outside of the sport. “Ryan will continue to be showcased on other platforms through the visibility of his promoter Fifty Cent. He’s in a very unique situation and while he continues to win, those opportunities will only get bigger. However, our main focus is boxing development and getting Ryan comfortable under some of the sports biggest lights.”
Martin has just returned from a two-week training camp with stable mate and mutli-divisional World Champion Yuriorkis Gamboa (23-0). Here he worked diligently on his development. “Ryan has great speed and height for the weight-class; I’m very impressed with his boxing skills for how young he is and the limited pro experience he has. I expect him to do great things in the sport. If he stays focused he should be a World Champion,” stated Gamboa.
The two main events at Turning Stone’s June 6 ESPN Friday Night Fights broadcast will be a 10-round light middleweight bout featuring Yudel Jhonson (15-1, 9 KOs) and an 8-round welterweight bout featuring Sammy Vasquez Jr. (14-0, 10 KOs). The June 6 event will also feature a special attraction with Ievgen Khytrov (4-0, 4 KOs) in an 8-round middleweight bout.
The event will broadcast live on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights beginning at 10:30 p.m. Doors will open at 7:00 p.m. with the first bout tentatively scheduled for 8:00 p.m. Tickets will be available on Ticketmaster, and by visiting the Turning Stone box office or calling (315) 361-7469.
