Looking back at his most recent title defense against Firat Arslan November 3rd in Halle (Germany), WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck feels that he owes his challenger another shot at the title.
“It was one of the toughest fights in my life”, Huck admits. “I respected Firat before the fight and I respect him even more now. He really fought his heart out. I am not happy and not satisfied with my own performance. I know I could and should have done better. I was a little distracted and thought about fighting the Klitschkos. So I lost my focus. Firat was at his best that night. He made me work hard for my money. It was a very close fight and I think he deserves a rematch. But I can promise him that I won’t make the same mistakes again. If we fight again I will leave no doubt that I am the better man. I promise that I will stop him.”
Although Huck who turned 28 last Sunday wants to focus on doing his “homework” in the cruiserweight division he also watched Wladimir Klitschko heavyweight title fight against Mariusz Wach last Saturday in Hamburg.
“Honestly, I am disappointed”, states Huck. “I mean, I really didn’t expect a lot from Wladimir but cherrypicking a helpless victim like Wach for a voluntary defense is a disgrace. He cannot tell me that there were no better options and no better opponents available. Wach is not even a real boxer and he surely is not a worthy world title challenger. But even though he doesn’t know what he’s doing in the ring he still managed to shake up Wladimir in the fifth. This tells you a lot about Wladimir. He is still the same guy who was knocked out cold by Ross Puritty and Corrie Sanders. He just cannot handle pressure. I really wonder how he thinks he could handle me if he cannot even cope with a slow robot like Mariusz Wach. Chosing a guy like Wach also shows you that the Klitschkos are just show and business men while I am a fighter, a true warrior. Instead of taking the easy way in my voluntary defense I accepted the challenge from Arslan, a former world champion who is still one of the best cruiserweights in the world. And even though I don’t have to I will even fight him again just to set the record straight.”
