Cradley’s Chris Male and Coventry’s Troy James are set to go head to head for a shot at the British Super Featherweight Title.
The Midlands pair meet in an Eliminator at the Copthorne Hotel, Merry Hill – Dudley, on Saturday, 14th September in what is an intriguing contest between two well-matched opponents.
30 year-old Male (12-1) retired from the sport following a points loss to Leeds’ Josh Warrington for the vacant English title back in November 2012 but made a u-turn soon after. His last outing was a convincing points victory over durable Slovakian, Elemir Rafael, in May
James (14-2), who has appeared in Prizefighter and fought Terry Flannigan for the English strap last year, goes into the contest on the back of two victories in 2013. ‘Terrifying Troy’ defeated Ivan Godor on points back in May before claiming a similar victory over ‘Gypsy Boy’ Billy Smith, who sadly took his own life earlier this week.
Wales’ Gary Buckland (27-2) is the current British Super Featherweight Champion but he puts the belt on the line next month when he takes on Liverpool’s Stephen ‘Swifty’ Smith (16-1). The winner of Male and James will move up the rankings and could be granted either a Final Eliminator or mandatory shot at the victor of Buckland versus Smith, which takes place in Cardiff on 17th August, by the BBBoC.
