Lwandile Sityatha is the new World Boxing Federation (WBF) World Super Flyweight Champion after winning the vacant title against undefeated fellow countryman Siphosethu Mvula on Saturday night (May 31) at the Orient Theatre in East London, South Africa.
Sityatha (26) proved to be a level above the game Mvula, who remained dangerous throughout especially with his powerful left hook, and experience and the high work-rate was a key factor over the twelve rounds.
While an entertaining bout for the fans in attendance at the tradition-rich venue, it was rather one-sided, and it came as no surprise when judges Rassie Erasmus, Alan Matakane and Simphiwe Mbini all scored the fight clearly in favour of Sityatha: 119-109, 118-111 and 118-110.
The new WBF World Champion takes his professional boxing ledger to 16-3-1 (7), while 20-year-old Mvula drops to 7-1 (6) but remains a very promising contender to watch out for in the future, having already captured the South African national title.
The fight was promoted by Ayanda Matiti and his Xaba Promotions.
