Luke Keeler: I am as much a prospect and Quigley and Cummings

LUKE Keeler believes he is as much as middleweight prospect as the high profile duo of Conrad Cummings and Jason Quigley and he is looking forward going about proving it starting this Friday night in the Red Cow.

‘Dynamite’ Cummings and Quigley have attracted a lot of media attention since turning over and have been tipped for the top by fight fans and pundits alike.

Considering their successful amateur careers and the fact they are signed to Cyclone Promotions and Golden Boy respectively hype is both deserved and expected.

However, while there is a difference in column inches received ‘Cool Hand Luke’ is adamant there isn’t a talent discrepancy between the talented pair pair and himself. The undefeated middleweight, who tops his first bill at the Red Cow on September 12, plans to prove as much over the next 12 months.

“The likes of Jason Quigley and Conrad Cummings had huge success in amateurs and as a result have an easier start to pro careers with regards publicity and not having to sell tickets to cover opponents and so fort,” Keeler told Irish-boxing.com.

“This is only right at the same time there hard work and success paying off but I genuinely feel I’m at the same level in professional game as those lads and look forward to proving that in next year or so.”

Keeler was due to fight in what he believed would be a break out clash against Paul Moffett on a Sky Sports broadcast Matthew Macklin undercard on August 30, but was left disappointed when the card set for the National Stadium fell through. However, he claims topping a bill in his home town has softened the blow.

The Macklin show being cancelled was big disappointment but having this Alio Wilton promoted Dublin show shortly after softened the blow and the fact I’m fighting on the rescheduled Macklin show in November meant I wasn’t too gutted. It’s a shame but it happens in boxing. Injuries and the likes mean shows can get cancelled and fights can fall through, I have seen it all before in gym with Stephen Ormond’s fights falling through.
