Albany’s “ILL” Will Madera (9-0,4KOs) is returning to Cornwall, Ontario on June 17 to pick up where he left offafterhis rousing April debut as a Liveco boxer.
Madera signed an exclusive promotional contract with Liveco in March and immediately showed why Liveco picked him up by stopping the hard-hitting Valenzuela in the 5th round of a scheduled 6 in Liveco’s first fight night in Cornwall.
Madera, 26, brings a ferocious left hook and tremendous tenacity as demonstrated in a February 2016 bout–a majority decision over Mexico’s Randy Lozano (10-8-2, 7KOs), where Lozano broke Madera’s nose in the first round. Stung, bloodied, but not beaten, Madera persevered for the win.
He thrilled a packed Cornwall Civic Complex with a textbook dismantling of Omar Valenzuela (9-5-2, 4KOs) in April.Liveco Boxing has decided to bring the New York lightweight back for six rounds against Rolando “Indio” Mendivil (10-3-0, 3KOs) for another fight night in Cornwall.
“We love this kid for his fire in the ring and his never-say-die attitude,” saysLiveco founder Ron Sanderson. “He’s exactly the kind of fighter we look for. He’s an outstanding young man out of the ring, but he’s vicious inside.”
In his pro debut, Madera demonstrated that viciousness and his power in front of a large contingent of his fans in Whitehall, NY. He dislocated the jaw of Edwin Cotto (1-1) in the first round earning a TKO.
In his second pro fight, he was matched with a winless Oscar Diaz. “I got into a brawl with him,” Madera said. “This was a much tougher fight than his record showed. I broke his nose and the guy kept coming.”
He loves the mind game and the challenge of out-thinking his opponent. In his 2015 bout against a vastly experienced Abraham Gomez (26-14-1, 13KOs), Madera used defense combined with his power to neutralize Gomez. He earned a unanimous decision against the super lightweight from Guadalajara.
Outside of the ropes, Madera works full-time as a residential counselor at Albany’s Center for Disability Services. He credits that and keeping up with his six children, plus training as his guiding force, focusing him on winning and getting better.
“I am glad to be backed by Liveco Boxing and take on more fights. I’m ready to get in that ring, show the world where the ‘ILL’ in Will comes fromand fightMendivil on June 17th.”
