UK News: Darragh Foley; David Brophy; Davey Oliver Joyce

World-ranked Darragh ‘Super’ Foley makes his UK debut on MTK Global’s show in Glasgow tonight and has arrived full of ambition.

The Irish super-lightweight has stacked up an impressive record of 15-2-KO8 in Australia since turning professional in 2013 and is determined to conquer the sport on a global scale.

With his fellow MTK Global super-lightweights Jack Catterall and Ohara Davies facing off with a lofty WBO ranking at stake in October, Foley is excited by what could lie ahead if he overcomes Chris Jenkins (19-3-1-KO8).

Foley said: “I want to fight the top boys in the UK market now and Catterall and Davies are the top boys on paper now.

“I’d even take the loser of that fight. It pains me to say it but I think that schmuck Davies wins the fight. It really pains me to say that.

“In this next 12 months, ideally I’d like to beat the top guys in MTK Global and then be positioned well to fight the winner of the WBSS for all the marbles.

“It doesn’t feel any different fighting in the UK. I’m calm and going through the motions. It’s just another fight but I want to put on a good show. Chris will bring it and so will I and we’ll clash in the middle of the ring.

“It’s an Irishman and a Welshman clashing in Scotland. Everyone expects this to be a tough war so any other result will be a bonus but I always look for the jackpot.”

Foley v Jenkins tops a colossal bill at the Emirates Arena with Stephen Ormond v George Ashie, David Brophy, Kieran Smith and more also featuring.

Scottish super-middleweight David Brophy has set his heart on winning the British title as he prepares to fight in front of his fanatical support in Glasgow.

The Caldercruix fighter (19-2-1-KO3) returns to Scotland for the first time since January 2017 on MTK Global’s show at Emirates Arena tonight – live on BoxNation – and has outlined his latest ambitions.

The popular Brophy said: “I’ve got big support coming. I’ve got people even showing up for the weigh-in. I don’t know how or why because I’ve only got three mates!

“You always see them there and it means a lot. It doesn’t matter where I go – they come and support me.

“Realistically, world level is a long way away at this stage and we need to get back in the gym, back working and back under the lights.

“I don’t like to look too far ahead. I like to take baby steps. If I can get back to British title level, that’d be good.

“Obviously in my last fight, I fought Rocky Fielding for the British title and lost but hopefully one day I can get my hands on that Lonsdale belt.”

Brophy features on a stellar card that also includes Darragh Foley v Chris Jenkins, Stephen Ormond v George Ashie, Kieran Smith and more.

Unbeaten Olympian Davey Oliver Joyce remains determined to force his way to the top despite being one of the most avoided fighters in the super-featherweight division.

The man from Mullingar (7-0-KO6) saw IBF European champion Ronnie Clark withdraw from their scheduled clash due to an injury but will showcase his skills against a new opponent on Friday’s MTK Global bill at Glasgow’s Emirates Arena – live on BoxNation.

Joyce, who competed at the 2016 Rio Olympics, said: “We’ve been through three or four different opponents and I just want to fight. I’m in this game to fight the best.

“Tomorrow night, I’ll unleash the frustration on the opponent. I’m a nice guy but in the ring we’re both there to win. If I can take him out in the first round or whether it takes six or seven, fair enough.

“I’m ready to fight for European and world titles now. My team will guide me in the right way.

“I’ve been calling out people and for some reason they don’t want to do it. I’ve only had seven fights but I want to fight for these big titles.

“I’m not going to say any names but these guys know who I’ve called out. My team has made them offers and they don’t want to do it but I’m going to make my name in the super-featherweight division.”

Joyce stars on a card that also features Darragh Foley v Chris Jenkins, Stephen Ormond v George Ashie, Kieran Smith, David Brophy and more.
