Jordan Shimmell will be fighting February 27th in Washington DC

Jordan Shimmell, 19-1 with 16 KOs, will be boxing at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in downtown Washington DC on Saturday, February 27, 2016. Jordan will be boxing Willis Lockett, 14-15-5, in an 8 round featured bout on the Kings Promotions’ card. Jordan is looking to get his 20th victory since turning pro on June 30, 2012. Jordan will also be seeking his 17th knockout in his 21st pro bout and doing so against a very rugged and durable opponent.

Lockett has been active as he just lost a split decision two weeks ago in Detroit, MI to a 10-0 heavyweight who defeated one of Jordan’s Michigan Golden Gloves teammates at the 2011 National Golden Gloves tournament. Jordan knows that fight shows Lockett is tough. Lockett’s resume shows that he has fought many top contenders and has defeated some, has drawn against some and lost close decisions to others. Lockett has shown that he’s durable as he’s only been knocked out once by heavyweight Javier Mora and stopped inside the distance three other times on cuts, disqualification and retirement. Lockett went the distance with a former world middleweight champion and also with two world title challengers. Lockett has a draw against Darnell Wilson who lost a 12 round decision for the WBA world cruiserweight title.

Jordan Shimmell is preparing for this next fight like it is a title fight as he knows Willis Lockett has almost double the pro experience he has and has fought top competition. Over the past several months Jordan has been training hard and sparring a variety of boxers to hone his skills for his next fight. Now that Jordan knows he is scheduled to face Lockett on February 27th, Jordan has sparred more frequently including 42 rounds during the past 4 days against some very skilled boxers. Jordan will be in great shape for the fight and be ready to go 8 rounds if necessary, but he will be trying to end the fight early.
