Jordan Shimmell, 20-1 with 16 KOs, has been training hard for his upcoming IBF World Title Eliminator Bout on May 17, 2016 at the Black Bear Casino in Carlton, MN. The fight is the 12 round main event which will be televised live on Fox Sports 1 (FS1) and Fox Deportes as part of the Premier Boxing Champions series on Fox Sports’ Toe to Toe Tuesdays boxing show.
The winner of the bout will become the mandatory challenger for the IBF Cruiserweight world champion. Jordan is currently ranked #12 in the IBF world rankings and #1 in the USBA’s United States rankings. Jordan faces Murat Gassiev, 22-0 with 16 KOs who is ranked #3 in the IBF world rankings. Since Jordan knows he is fighting the hard hitting Russian fighter Gassiev, he has been training extremely hard and sparring a variety of excellent light heavyweight, cruiserweight and heavyweight boxers to be prepared for the fight.
Jordan Shimmell is running 30+ miles per week plus other cardio exercises including elliptical, biking and stair stepper machines. Jordan has also been putting in 50+ rounds of sparring for the past few weeks and his conditioning is excellent. In addition to the cardio work and sparring, Jordan does a full boxing workout plus plyometric exercises, core exercises, strength training and stretching. Jordan is preparing for the full scheduled 12 rounds so that he will be able to fight at a hard pace for the entire fight.
Jordan turned pro less than 4 years ago and quickly moved up the rankings. Jordan has a very high knockout percentage of 76% but of Jordan’s 20 victories only 2 bouts went the distance. Two opponents were getting hurt by Jordan’s punches and deliberately fouled Jordan repeatedly so they would get disqualified rather than knocked out. Had those two bouts been ruled TKO’s instead of DQ’s with a referee waiving the fight off when the opponent was hurt rather than disqualifying him, Jordan would have 18 knockouts out of his 20 victories. Jordan has quick footwork and quick punches but he also has very hard power punches including devastating body punches.
