Jordan Shimmell 14-0 boxes in a featured bout in Davenport, Iowa

Jordan Shimmell, 14-0 with 12 knockouts, will be boxing in an 8 round featured bout at the Danceland Ballroom in Davenport, Iowa on May 31, 2014. This is Jordan’s second time boxing in the historic venue near the Mississippi River as he won his 6th bout there via 2nd round knockout over Clinton Boldridge on November 10, 2012.

For this bout on May 31, Jonathon Corn, a veteran of nearly 80 fights (47-27-3) has agreed to step into the ring to face Jordan Shimmell, the USBO Cruiserweight Champion, whose current world rankings are: #22 by the IBO, #26 by BoxRec, and #35 by the WBC at cruiserweight and #22 by at heavyweight. Jordan is ranked #2 by the NABA, #2 in the U.S. by BoxRec, #7 by the USBA, #7 by the NABO and #11 by the NABF.

The matchmaker and promoter of the show, Clint Calkins, attempted to secure opponents for Jordan with high rankings and great records to no avail. Several boxers agreed and then backed out and over 25 boxers said no to fighting Jordan with many saying they were injured once they found out the opponent was Jordan Shimmell. Clint Calkins stated “Jordan has caused more injuries to these heavyweights and cruiserweights just by me asking them to fight him than they have had in an actual fight.”

Jordan Shimmell just sparred with WBC Light Heavyweight Champ Adonis Stevenson for 2.5 weeks to help Adonis get prepared for his fight on Showtime tomorrow night against Andrzej Fonfara. Last year Jordan sparred with both Adonis and Andrzej to help both prepare for successful title fights and Jordan also sparred with Heavyweight Champ Wladimir Klitschko to help Klitschko prepare for one of his world title fights last year. Jordan is on the cusp of fighting on TV and fighting for the world title so local fans will be able to say they saw Jordan on his way to the World Championship.

Boxing fans can purchase general admission tickets to the show at the door for $25.00.

Jordan Shimmell continues to improve in the pro ranks and is quickly moving towards a world title. In less than 2 years as a professional boxer, he has already shown great progress in his development as a pro boxer. Jordan is one of the top cruiserweight and heavyweight prospects in the world. Team Shimmell has been working diligently towards Jordan’s first nationally televised fight which they believe will happen within the next few fights.
