James Leija Jr. makes professional debut tonight in San Antonio, Texas

Saturday, August 8, Junior Welterweight James Leija Jr, son of former two-time Featherweight Champion Jesse James Leija, will make his long awaited professional boxing debut this evening at the SA Event Center in San Antonio, TX. The tall, rangy 140 pound boxer is slated to face Cesar Martinez (0-3-1) from Austin, Texas, in his first scheduled four round contest.

The college graduate was originally slated to showcase his skills against Eric Butler in front of a massive crowd in Houston, Texas, on the under-card of “Canelo vs. Kirkland” on May 9th, but ultimately fell through when his opponent failed to make weight.

When asked how he felt about his son’s first professional bout, Jesse James Leija was surprisingly candid.

“I’m a dad first,” admitted the Texas fight legend. “When you’re a father and your child is performing, you get butterflies…probably more so than they do.”

The former WBC titlist will serve as his son’s chief second in tonight’s scheduled four-round special feature.

The Junior Welterweight contest is one of eleven professional bouts set to take place on tonight’s “Bragging Rights” fight card, promoted by Triple A Promotions, and sponsored by TMB Entertainment.
