Hellraiser Boxing proudly presents ‘Camden Fight Night’

Southern Area middleweight champion Elliott Matthews now has added incentive to win on Friday night.

The Board have paid Matthews and Damon Jones in an eliminator for the St George’s belt that’s currently held by Danny Butler.

The clash of unbeatens looks set to take place later this year, but Matthews says he’s fully focussed on his eight-round match with Ruslans Pojonisevs at the Camden Centre on Friday night.

Also on the bill, Craig Whyatt and Jamie Speight meet for the vacant Southern Area featherweight champion.

Matthews says he’s done his homework on the Latvian who stands in his way this week and said: “I’m concentrating on him, I’m not thinking about what comes next.”
Matthews describes Pojonisevs as “experienced, sharp and he has a tight guard and good chin. I could punch him all night and he will still be there.

“He doesn’t have my talent. I’ve got to keep my wits about me and control the fight. He likes to have a swing and if I have to dig deep to come out on top I will.”
Matthews will be having his first fight as Southern Area champion. He captured the vacant belt in February with an eight-round technical points win over Diego Burton that was seen in 109 countries on Eurosport.

Looking ahead, he said: “I’ve just got to keep winning, keep showing what I can do and hopefully the big fights and TV exposure will come along.”

Also on the bill are unbeatens Charlie Hoy, Wayne Alwan-Arab, Bradley Watson, Marley Churcher and Bushey-based super-featherweight Romeo Romaeo.

Romaeo looks to chalk up a fourth straight win against Michael Ramabeletsa, the Bristol-based South African who’s pulled off shocks and been competitive at championship level before in his 24-fight career.
