California boxing hall of famer Bobby DePhilippis and his company Bobby D. Presents takes his show on the road this coming Friday when they present “Guys and Dolls” at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California.
The talent-packed fight card will mark the fourth event this year for newly awarded NABF female promoter of the year with at least four more scheduled before the end of 2014. On Friday DePhilippis will once again present yet another North American Boxing Federation female title fight when in the semi-main event Chantel “Gorgeous Babe” Cordova (12-5-1, 3KO) of Pueblo, Colorado, faces off against Patricia “Patty Boom Boom” Alcivar (7-2, 3KO) in a ten round super flyweight championship bout.
Cordova, an eight-year veteran, will have her hands full with the boxing skill of Alcivar who captured the New York state title with a win over Eileen Olszewki early last year. This will be the second time that Cordova fights for a title since back in 2011 she challenged Arely Muciño for the vacant IBF female flyweight title. In an eighteen fight pro career, Cordova has faced the likes of Hollie Dunaway, Sharon Gaines and Maria Suarez.
The Cordova-Alcivar championship bout will be the third NABF female title fight DePhilippis holds this year with Kenia Enriquez capturing the light flyweight belt this past April and Amaris “Diamond Girl” Quintana the strawweight title just last month.
In the main event, flyweight fireworks will go off when Mexican Victor “Pelon” Ruiz (15-3, 11KO) of Tijuana faces Kyrgyzstan’s Timur “Here Comes Trouble” Shailezov (17-7-1, 4KO) in a scheduled ten round clash. Shailezov is coming off an upset of previously undefeated and highly touted Miguel Cartagena stopping him in three rounds while Ruiz, a non-stop come forward brawler, is no stranger to upsetting the apple cart himself. Ruiz stopped up and coming Francisco Rodriguez Jr in five last year and since then has gone 4-1 with three wins inside the distance. Neither man is known to take a step back so an-all out brawl can be expected when these two little warriors get in the ring.
Featured in a special attraction bout will be Dallas, Texas’ Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker (13-0-2, 9KO) against Lauro Alcantar (8-2, 1KO) of Agua Prieta, Sonora, in a six round welterweight bout.
Local cruiserweight Alberto Fundora will make his pro debut against Alberto Aviña (0-2) of Stockton while 6”1’ super bantamweight Rafael “El Divino” Espinoza (3-0, 2KO) goes six rounds or less against Victor Serrano (3-5, 1KO). Fallbook, CA’s Roque Ramos (4-0-1, 1KO) will put his undefeated record on the line against Jesus Sandoval (3-2-3) or Redwood City in a featherweight four rounder.
