Lee Glover is in confident mood ahead of his English Super-Featherweight Title showdown with current champion Jon ‘2smokes’ Kays on Saturday (8th March).
‘The Tipton Slasher’ (7-1) takes on ‘2 Smokes’ (17-3-1) at the Oldham Sports Centre and believes he has the artillery in his locker to become just the second man, after Liam Walsh for the Commonwealth strap, to stop his more experienced opponent.
“Jon is good fighter,” revealed the 26 year-old. “He’s a nice tidy boxer, so it should be a good fight. He goes into it as favourite but, believe me, I’ve taken this fight believing I can beat him.
“Whether it’s a stoppage points win, either way, I’ve trained hard to win the fight and I believe in myself. I can see me stopping him inside the distance.”
The 26 year-old believes the sparring he has had with current British Lightweight Champion, Martin Gethin, will give him the edge on the night. He has no qualms about fighting on the road and is determined to return to the Black Country with the English strap.
“I don’t mind going on the road to win a belt,” he added. “As an amateur I had lots of fights and boxed away from home many times, so I’m just looking forward to getting in the ring and showing the away fans what I can do.
“I’ve had a really good camp. I’ve been sparring Martin Gethin, who is heavier than me and is obviously a top class fighter. I’ve done a lot of rounds with him. He’s sharp and strong, and I think that will be to my advantage.”
