Murphys Boxing is pleased to announce the signing of Middleweight Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan to a promotional contract. Spike (18-1 11KO’s) who hails from Cork, Ireland is the former #4 ranked WBO middleweight in the world.
Coming off a huge 1st round KO win last November over Anthony Fitzgerald at the 3Arena in Dublin, Spike looks to make his mark in the U.S. on the inaugural “The Memorial Series” fight card, taking place on February 26th at The Memorial Hall in Melrose MA. With his lone defeat coming in a 12 round decision loss to the #1 ranked WBO Middleweight in the world Billy Sanders, Spike has proven he deserves to be in the ring with the best of the Middleweight division. Spike is a relentless fighter who is used to being in tough fights. He has an all out exciting style which endears him to fight fans and boxing media alike. Spike comes fully loaded with an arsenal of punches, none more prominently on display then the picture perfect right upper cut that KO’d Fitzgerald, earning him one of the top KO’s of 2014. With a new year on the horizon, Spike looks to continue to cement his place among the top Middleweights in the world.
“Spike is the type of fighter that enjoys going to war, the only guy to beat him did so on points by running all night”, said Ken Casey of Murphys Boxing. “His fighting style will fit perfect with the usual raucous Murphys Boxing crowd. We look forward to securing Spike fights with the biggest names in the Middleweight division” added Casey.
“I’m really excited to be working with Ken and Murphys Boxing as my promoter. This is the first time I have a genuine person who cares about me and my career”, said Spike. “I’ve loved my previous visits to the United States. I fought in Boston 3 times and it’s my favorite place to fight, the support is phenomenal. I intend to entertain the fans and show them what I can do in the ring, sending them home wanting to see me again. I believe I have the ability to become a world champion”
Famed Dublin trainer Packie Collins, who trains Spike and is the brother of former WBO Super Middleweight Champion and Boston fan favorite Stevie Collins, is also excited about the signing of Spike by Murphys Boxing. “It’s great that Spike now has a promoter that is behind him so he can reach the level his talent deserves” concluded Packie Collins.
Spike O’Sullivan has replaced Mark Deluca on the February 26th, The Memorial Series fight card. It has been decided that Deluca who has been rehabbing a minor injury will need a few more weeks of training.
