June 19, 2014 – INDIO, CA – Fantasy Springs Resort Casino, the Coachella Valley’s leader in live boxing and entertainment, is hosting an explosive night of boxing Friday, July 11th when Mexico’s Victor “Pelon” Ruiz (15-3, 11KO) faces Timur “Here Comes Trouble” Shailezov (17-7-1, 4KO) of Russia in a ten round flyweight main event bout. The seven-bout fight card will display international and local talent; presented by San Diego’s premier boxing promoter, Bobby D. Presents.
Hailing from Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico; Ruiz was selected as the 2012 Rookie of the Year in his hometown and has since gone on an impressive run – including a victory over the highly regarded Sergio Frias via second round TKO in April of 2013. Now coming off a controversial loss in an unsuccessful bid for the IBA super flyweight title, Ruiz is back to his natural weight class of 112 pounds to face world-renowned boxer, Timu Shailezov. Originally of Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, and fighting out of Los Angeles – Shailezov is fighting for only the third time within the U.S. in his illustrious career. Shailezov has upset previously undefeated Miguel Cartegena via a third round TKO in Pennsylvania is his last bout and now looks to do the same to Ruiz.
The co-main event features female fighters Chantel “Gorgeous Babe” Cordova (12-5-1, 3KO) of Pueblo, Colorado, and Patricia “Patty Boom Boom” Alcivar (7-2, 3KO) of New York in a super flyweight ten round fight for the vacant North American Boxing Federation (NABF) title. Known as two of the best in their weight class, fireworks are expected when these two women face-off inside the ring.
Also featured on the card will be undefeated light welterweight Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker (13-0-2, 9KO) of Dallas, Texas, as he faces his most experienced opponent in Jorge “Tigre” Pimentel (28-22, 22KO) of Guaymas, Mexico. Pimentel has been in the ring with some of the most current up-and-coming prospects such as Mercito Gesta, Antonio Lozada, Jr. and Francisco Santana.
Local talent Louis Rose (10-1-1, 3KO), “Rocky” Ramos (4-0-1, 1KO), Rafael “Divino” Espinoza (3-0, 2KO) and first-timer Alberto Fundora of Coachella also fight on this card.
