Fagan Sets his Targets for the New Season

As the rest of us have rested, been on our holidays and relaxed in the hot weather this August as we eagerly await the start of the new domestic season, there has been no time off for the boxers during the off season as they continue to train hard and prepare for the new season ahead.

The new season gives fighters the chance of a fresh start and the time to set new goals for their upcoming campaign; and this is exactly what Ellesmere Port fighter Matty Fagan has done this summer as he looks to put a tough last 12 months behind him.

After 12 months out of the ring due to injuries and opponent pull outs, 28-year-old Fagan was finally able to return to the ring and given a chance to kick start his stalled career; but former British Champion Gary Buckland spoiled the comeback by just edging the bout 58-57 in a 6 rounder. The fight was close and victory could of gone either way but Fagan was far from pleased with his performance;

“I watched it back yesterday and it was awful. Thirteen months without a fight and I just didn’t work hard enough and was off the pace.” Fagan explained.

Fighting Regularly is important for Fagan at this current moment and has reacted positively after the Buckland by jumping straight back into the ring for a four round fight which will take place on September 3rd at the Robin Park Centre, Wigan.

It’s the perfect way for Fagan to kick off the new domestic season as he looks to focus on the targets he has set for the next 12 months with ‘to stay busy’ being an important for more than one reason;

“I’m hoping to pick up a title this year and stay busy. It’s getting tough financially so I need a few wins to get my purses up. I’m confident I can get some good wins once I’m active, so big season ahead!”.
