Luke Paddock returns to the scene of his finest boxing hour to date ready to build on his impressive start to life as a professional boxer.
The Walsall fighter tops the bill on EJKO Promotions’ ‘Mayday!’ show at Walsall Town Hall on Friday, 16th May.
The 22 year-old lifted the British Bronze Masters Light Welterweight Title at the Town Hall last month and, as he steps up his training ahead of a showdown with tough Bulgarian, Kristian Dochev, Paddock revealed that topping the bill in his hometown is a ‘dream come true’.
“It’s another big night for me,” he told www.uko-boxing.com. “It was a great feeling to win a belt in my hometown last time out and I’m ready to build on that when I face Dochev.
“To be topping bill, alongside Jason Welborn, is a dream come true. To see my face on the poster and my name in big bold letters gives me a real buzz. I’m used to seeing my name in the bottom corner! It means a lot to me and I want to repay everyone’s faith in me – my trainers, my promoters, my fans.”
Dochev is a tough customer. At the age of just 21, ‘The Warrior’ has already had 25 professional contests and has fought across Europe.
Winning ten of his bouts to date, including a points victory in his homeland yesterday (Sunday), Paddock is rightly wary of what is a tricky opponent for only his seventh professional fight.
“I’ve seen clips of him and he looks very tough,” added the former Priory Park ABC star. “He’s won a fair few fights and has only been stopped twice, so he’ll be a difficult customer.”
Fellow bill-topper, Jason Welborn, also faces Bulgarian opposition in the shape of Stanislav Nenkov whilst Tipton super featherweight Lee Glover, Staffordshire welterweight Rob Hunt, Leicester welterweight Ryan Nandha, Halesowen super middleweight Lennox Clarke, Stoke welterweight Josh McLaren, Wolverhampton super featherweight Des Bowater and brother, (welterweight) Sid Bowater, and Birmingham cruiserweight Olly Lambert, all feature on the undercard.
Dudley light middleweight, Kyle Spencer, and Cradley super featherweight, Chris Male, no longer feature.
Tickets, priced at £30 and £60 Ringside, are available from Walsall Town Hall Box Office on 0845 111 2900.
The aftershow party takes place at the Pitch Sports Bar and Grill on Bridge Street, Walsall. The show will also be aired live and exclusive on BBC WM’s DAB Digital Service and online at www.bbc.co.uk/wm
