PROMOTER Frank Maloney has put together a talent stacked undercard for his major show at Liverpool’s Echo Arena on Saturday 23rd February – including two British title fights.
Local idol David Price (15-0) heads the bill when he meets Tony Thompson (36-3) in a 12 round international heavyweight bout.
Another Liverpool fighter Kevin Satchell (9-0) will make the first defence of his British flyweight title against exciting Belfast scrapper Luke Wilton (13-2-1).
And Bristol’s Darren Hamilton (12-2) risks his British light-welterweight crown against scouser, Steve Williams (13-1).
That fight has been postponed twice, and Maloney says that the British Boxing Board of Control may strip Hamilton if he pulls out for the second time.
He explained: “We hope to have a commitment from the Board that if Hamilton does pull out this time the title will be declared vacant.
“That is what we’re pushing for because this is the third time we have tried to stage the fight.
“Adil Anwar is boxing on the undercard and would be willing at short notice for a British title challenge if needed, but hopefully Darren has fully recovered from injury and will be ready.”
Satchell, 24, won the British title in October when he stopped defending champion Chris Edwards in six rounds.
Wilton (13-2-1) has already sold more than 300 tickets, but Maloney says: “Kevin is Britain’s most exciting flyweight and at the end of the year he will be closing in on a world title.
“The flyweight champions are tougher than most, but it can be easier to manoeuvre them into world title positions.”
Making their comebacks are Liverpool famous boxing brothers, The Burkes.
Ex former Commonwealth lightweight champion David (26-2) hasn’t boxed since May 2005 and Stephen (10-1) who last fought almost three years ago.
An added attraction to the quality card also includes featuring Cuban heavyweight star Mike Perez (18-0).
Others on the bill include Sean Dodd (4-0), Louis Cuddy (6-0), Neil Perkins (2-0), Steven Lewis (2-0), Andy Colquhoun (5-0) and Peter Gallagher (1-0).
Tickets can be purchased £230 (VIP including meal and inner ringside seat), £95 (Ringside), £70 and £40 at www.echoarena.comwww.frankmaloney.com or 0844 8000 400.
