Just three days after returning home from his recent victory on August 9, featherweight prospect Gary Russell, Jr. (Capitol Heights, Md.) and his wife Sapphire Russell welcomed a new baby girl into their family. Harmonee Mariah Russell entered the world at 7:19 a.m., on August 13. She weighed in at four pounds, six ounces and measured 16 inches long.
The newest Russell is the third daughter for Gary, Jr., making four-year-old Sacred and one-year-old Gianna proud big sisters. Due to her small size, Harmonee remained in the hospital for a week, but her parents were able to take her home on Tuesday.
Both Gary and Sapphire are thrilled to welcome the latest addition to their very active household. “Being a great father is the most important thing in my life, and Sapphire and I look forward to seeing Harmonee grow up with her big sisters,” Russell said. “I guess that I’m just meant to be surrounded by beautiful women.”
Gary and Sapphire have been married since September 2011 and live in Capitol Heights, Md., just outside of Washington DC. With Gary’s parents and little brothers living right across the street, they will have no shortage of babysitters to assist with their growing family.
Russell recently recorded his 23rd professional victory with a 10-round unanimous decision over Juan Ruiz at the Fantasy Springs Resort and Casino in Indio, Calif. The bout was Russell’s first since fracturing his hand in a March 2 win over Vyacheslav Gusev.
Gary Russell, Jr., is a promising featherweight known for the fastest hands in the sport of boxing and one punch knockout power. A 2008 Olympian, Russell was an amateur standout before entering the pro ranks in January of 2009 and now boasts a 23-0 (13 KOs) record. Boxing is a family affair for the Russells with his father, Gary Russell, Sr., serving as his trainer and three younger brothers also involved in the sweet science.
