Tonight’s VIP Promotions show at Colne’s Municipal Hall, headlined by Shayne ‘The Pain’ Singleton fighting for the WBC International Silver welterweight title, can be viewed live/FREE at VIPBOXING.TV.
Colne’s Shayne Singleton is eyeing a challenge to Frankie Gavin and his British welterweight crown if he comes through his next outing.
The 16-bout unbeaten fighter takes on Hungarian puncher Laszlo Fazekas in his hometown’s Municipal Hall on Friday April 11 for the WBC International Silver title. And, with the show streamed live and FREE on VIPBOXING.TV, ‘The Pain’ is looking to show that he is ready for Britain’s best.
“I can see this being the best night yet in Colne,” explained Singleton, who holds a win over new British light-welterweight champ Curtis Woodhouse.
“I’ve sold double the amount of tickets and it’s a great boxing venue with the balcony around. The atmosphere is special and I’ve not been to another venue with an atmosphere like it.
“Fazekas has been about even though he’s only 24. He’s won 19 with 14 KOs so he can punch. He can be beat but he obviously stands a chance because he can knock people out. I’m expecting a tough fight; it’s for a good title and I’m really looking forward to it.”
The WBC Silver belt can be the key that unlocks the door to big bouts. With VIP stable mate Tommy Coyle winning the lightweight version in 2012 and subsequently moving on to Commonwealth and IBF International opportunities, Shayne is hoping to follow a similar journey.
The British 10st 7lbs division is in flux, with domestic champ Gavin angling for a future crack at Amir Khan. If the Birmingham stylist gives up his belt for bigger fights then Singleton wants to be front of the queue for a shot at the vacant title. If the Midlander remains in the hot-seat though, Singleton insists he is ready for the test.
“This’ll be my 17th fight and I’ve still got lots to learn, but I want to be involved in big fights like Tommy Coyle. Tommy won the title and then he fought for the Commonwealth. I want big fights; I want to prove myself at the next level and prove that I deserve to be there.
“I will fight anybody for the British title. Anybody at welterweight I will get in and mix it with. I’d be happy to fight for the vacant title but I’d also be happy to fight Frankie Gavin. I got the opportunity at a week’s notice but I’d been out of the gym for a while so couldn’t take it. If I was given good time I’d fight him. He’s a top class fighter and I wouldn’t underestimate him but I want to get in and see where I’m at.”
Promoter Steve Wood said: “Shayne is the former English light-welter champion. He’s on a long unbeaten run and I believe he deserves his shot at the top British honour. This WBC belt was the start of some big things for Tommy Coyle and hopefully, if Shayne wins, then it can do the same. Shayne packs the Municipal Hall out and the atmosphere will be daunting for the Hungarian. There are only a few £40 tickets left, and this is a great fight on VIPBOXING.TV.”
