(Photo courtesy PR Best Boxing Promotions/Joel Colon) Puerto Rican Jose “Chelo” Gonzalez and World Boxing Organization (WBO) lightweight champion Scottish Ricky Burns, were face to face today during the final press conference for their title clash this Saturday, May 11, at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, Scotland, in a Matchroom Boxing presentation.
The #1 ranked in the lightweights, Gonzalez (22-0, 17 KOs), and the champion Burns (35-2, 10 KOs), featured the press conference held at the Emirates Arena, lead by promoter Eddie Hearn, of Matchroom Boxing.
“I want to thank God for having me here, and I want to thank the people from Glasgow and Ricky Burns for this chance. I respect a lot Ricky Burns, he is a good champion”, Gonzalez said. “But I’m here to do my job in the ring, that’s for I’m here”.
Meanwhile, Burns a former 130 pounds WBO champion who will make his third defense of the lightweight belt, said that “we are trained for Jose Gonzalez, a hard puncher. We are focused in this fight for my fans here in Glasgow, and then on my way to bigger fights”.
The official weigh in for the Gonzalez-Burns fight will be on Friday, May 10, at the St Enoch Centre, open to the public.
