Atlantic City, NJ—Junior lightweight prospect Anthony Burgin faces his toughest test as a young pro when he takes on fellow-Philadelphian Frank Trader in a scheduled six-round match Saturday evening, April 12, in the Grand Ballroom at Bally’s Atlantic City.
Topping the seven-bout card is a 10-round junior lightweight contest between Jason Sosa, of Camden, NJ, and Michael Brooks, of Nassau, Long Island.
The entire card, which includes an eight-round middleweight match between Thomas LaManna, of Millville, NJ, and Ahsandi Gibbs, of Tampa, FL, will be streamed live by www.gofightlive.tv.
First fight is 7.30 p.m.
Burgin, 22 accepted the six-round fight with Trader—his first at that distance—despite not having fought since Aug. 24, when he earned a four-round decision over Jose Del Valle, of New York, at Bally’s.
A pro since 2012, Burgin is 5-0, 1 K0, but lacks the pro experience Trader brings to the table.
“I asked Anthony if he was up to the challenge and he told me to go ahead and make the fight and I like to hear that from a fighter,” said trainer Raul Rivas. “We’ve been getting terrific work in camp and he’s ready.”
Trader, 28, is 10-1-1, 2 K0s, and coming off a four-round draw Feb. 7 in Philadelphia with Israel Suarez, of Puerto Rico. Trader’s lone setback was a six-round decision loss to Adrian Perez, of Sarasota, FL, early in 2012 at the Foxwoods Casino In Mashantucket, CT.
A pro since 2005, Trader has beaten Philadelphians Georgi Kevlishvili and Jules Blackwell.
Four additional fights complete the card.
