Battle at the Boat 107 marks the return of Gavronski

TACOMA, Wash. – The Emerald Queen Casino has been hosting the Battle at the Boat boxing series for nearly two decades and you would be hard-pressed to find a fighter who has had more success in Tacoma than Mike Gavronski.

The super middleweight will make his much-anticipated return on Sept. 10 when he faces undefeated Australian champion Jake Carr in the 10-round main event.

“People have been asking me for a quite a while now when will Mike step back into the ring,” promoter Brian Halquist said. “He’s turned into the people’s champion here in Tacoma. We have had hundreds of fighters box here. I am not sure there’s been one as popular as Mike Gavronski.”

Gavronski, a native of Tacoma, brings an impressive 20-2-1 record into the contest. He suffered a rare defeat in his last bout on Nov. 7 when he lost by decision to Dashon Johnson in a bout for the WBA-NABA USA super middleweight championship. Gavronski won the first meeting between the two on Jan. 1, 2015.

Gavronski’s only other career setback occurred against current WBC Silver middleweight champion Tureano Johnson two years ago when Gavronski lost by decision in a bout for the vacant WBC Continental Americas middleweight title.

Carr will be making his U.S. debut at the event and sports an unblemished 11-0-0 record. He has been the reigning Australia super middleweight champion for nearly three years.

“The winner of this bout will make a huge jump in the world rankings,” Halquist said. “Both of these fighters are right there on the outside looking in. Both are hungry to take that next step. It’s going to be a fantastic event.”

Tickets are available through the EQC box office and all Ticketmaster Outlets. Preliminary bouts start at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Battle at the Boat 107 will feature the all new VIP experience with 3rd Row Seats being discounted to $75 per ticket. All fans seated in in the VIP section (rows 1-3) will have an exclusive access point and a dedicated server to help create a true VIP experience.
