Ronson Frank’s Uprising Promotions officially announced on Friday that Angel Luna (11-1-1, 6 KOs) has been added to the October 23rd ShoBox: The New Generation card at the Celebrity Theater in Phoenix, facing undefeated Filipino lightweight Harmonito Dela Torre (16-0, 11 KOs). Luna joins Uprising Promotions stablemate Samuel Clarkson (16-3, 10 KOs) on the show, where the Texas native will face Lavarn Harvell (15-1, 8 KOs) in light heavyweight action.
Luna enters the bout on October 23rd after an impressive win over Jose Lopez, who was previously undefeated in 16 fights before meeting him. That bout occurred at Barclays Center in June on the Miguel Cotto vs. Daniel Geale undercard, with Luna flooring Lopez twice as he cruised to a six-round unanimous decision.
“I am happy to see Angel receive another good opportunity like this,” said Ronson Frank, President of Uprising Promotions. “He is a guy who always stays in the gym, and he has continued to work hard since his win over Jose Lopez. In this fight with Dela Torre, he has a tall and lanky opponent who can punch, but I know Angel is up for the challenge. We are going to pressure this guy and see what he has because Angel is someone who always puts his best foot forward. If he is able to do that in this fight, we are going to come away with the win.”
Luna returns to the ring on October 23rd for the fourth time in 2015. Trained by Mateo De La Cruz and Frank, Luna fought his first nine professional bouts in his native country of the Dominican Republic before signing to Uprising Promotions. The Brooklyn transplant joined the promotion in 2014 and will fight under its banner for the sixth time when he faces Dela Torre.
Dela Torre will be making his American debut on October 23rd, with all 16 of his previous professional bouts occurring in Asia. 14 of those outings have happened in his native country of the Philippines, while the other two went down in China.
After Luna faces Dela Torre, Uprising Promotions will make a second appearance on the ShoBox card when Samuel Clarkson meets once-beaten Lavarn Harvell. The bout will be his second appearance on ShoBox this year, with his last time being a third round TKO of highly regarded prospect Jerry Odom in July. Clarkson has since picked up his third straight stoppage win via a first round TKO of Rayford Johnson in August, which was his sixth overall victory of the past year. In addition to the Odom win, that streak also includes a decision over former world title challenger Cedric Agnew.
