TEWKESBURY boxer, Adam Harper, can’t wait to prove himself in the professional ranks after signing a first professional contract with Birmingham-based promoter, Errol Johnson.
The 26-year-old signed on the dotted line last night and is set to make his pro bow in the coming months.
The exciting middleweight has spent six years perfecting his craft and is looking forward to taking his loyal band of supporters with him as he plots his course alongside the well-respected Johnson.
“I can’t wait,” Harper told www.uko-boxing.com. “I’ve been thinking about making the switch for a while and, once I met Errol, I knew he was the guy to take me forward.
“I wanted to concentrate on my degree before I turned pro so when I get old and fat and stop boxing, I can be taken seriously and get a job! I’ve done that now so I’m ready to see how far boxing can take me.
“I want to thank all my coaches and my loyal army of supporters. They’re brilliant. They follow me everywhere and have been an inspiration. I’m looking forward to going on this journey with them.
I also want to say thank you to both Tewkesbury and Worcester City ABC for everything they did for me as an amateur and a huge thanks to Preston and Fullwood ABC for helping when I was at university.”
Graduating with a 2:2 Degree in Uniformed Public Services, Harper is looking forward to a bright future both in and out of the ring. New manager, Johnson, is also looking forward to honing his young protégé’s talent.
“Adam is a very good boxer,” Johnson said. “He has been expertly taught and I’m very happy with the team he has around him. We’ll be pushing him forward and getting him on some big shows in the near future.”
