Why did the chicken cross the road?

By Adam "Dr" Zee

An age old question with multiple answers.

All three alphabet champions are running for cover vs Vitaly Klitschko. Are these men chicken? Every now and then, I'll take time out to a look at the defined definition of the word. In this case, the word "Chicken" is slang for a "Coward". The other definition is "any various competitions in which the participants persist in a dangerous course of action, until one loses verve and stops."

Are Lewis, Bryd and Jones afraid to meet Vitaly Klitscko in the profession they have chosen? If you look hard enough, the truth is out there....Lets take a look at Lewis, Bryd and Jones.

LEWIS: After putting on a good show vs Lewis, Vitaly has breathed life into a dormant heavyweight division. The people want to see him fight. They want to see this fight. Its time for the so called "people's" champions to give him an opportunity.

We all saw the Lewis fight. Vitaly was leading four rounds to two, when a cut above his eyelid stopped the action. If you ask me the stoppage was premature. An older, tired Lewis would have had to win four of the next six rounds on at least TWO of the judges card to force a draw. If you saw the Lewis collapse on the stool at the end of round six, that outcome was unlikely.

There was an obvious lack of communication between the doctor and Klitscko's corner, but that's another story..

Its too bad Lewis has turned into a rubber chicken. Those at the press conference for the pre-fight say Lewis never even looked Vitaly in the eye. Lennox should stop playing games. First he said the cut was too bad for them to fight again. Several doctors have said the cut has healed. Ok, Lennox, what's your next spin?

Ah, I know. How about hoping for Vitaly to lose, so you don't have to face him in the ring. I strongly suspect that Lewis wants Roy Jones, but Vitaly could legally block the fight. Lennox should come clean and retire.

Bryd: Chris Bryd is a much maligned fighter by some, but in truth he's willing to take risks. Bryd deserves props for that, but he knows he was L-U-C-K-Y vs Vitaly the first time around.

Vitaly should fight Bryd to avenge a his dubious defeat. Everyone knows the story of this fight. Vitaly was dominating until an injury forced him to subdue.

Vitaly deserves a rematch because he was clearly ahead. To parallel, suppose I was playing Andre Aggasi in a 3 set Tennis match. Andre's is up big, 6-0, 6-0, and up 4-1 in the third set. Aggasi was injured early in the match, but presses on. Ultimately, he retires because he is concerned about aggravating the injury to the point of permeant damage, so I win. All I would have is a Hallow victory. If I was concerned about my dignity, I'd give him a rematch when he was healthy. Bryd's victory over Vitaly deserves an asterisk the size of Vitaly's fist. So will Bryd give him a rematch to prove the fight was not a fluke? Don't hold your breath. Bryd will fight anyone out there not named Klitschko.

Jones: Vitaly should fight Roy Jones. Jones doesn't belong in the heavyweight division.

I was a huge Roy Jones fan. HUGE. However in my opinion he is cheeping the heavyweight belt. The recent steroids scandal has taken the win over Roy's historic win over Grade "C " champion John Ruiz.

Sorry Roy, but we all know you want the winner of Holyfield Vs Toney. Holyfield has lost it. Toney is too small for heavy. This fight has all the signs of a true stinker. In the red corner we have an old man, who's lost his stamina In the blue corner we have a cautious counter puncher who has no business being a heavyweight. Not exactly a formula for fireworks if you ask me. If you want to see any action in this fight, you might need to tape it, then fast forward your VCR.

Vitally was/is the #1 contender to Jones, and if boxing had any enforceable rules, Jones would have to fight Vitaly. Why do I get the hunch that the winner of Holyfield vs Toney automatically becomes the #1 contender for Jones belt?

Here's the truth. Either Toney of Holyfield can be defeated by Jones, BUT Klitschko would knock Jones out. Larry Donald has better feet, is a rangy athlete, and probably has a better chin than Jones.

In closing, I'm sure an article like this has ruffled the feathers ( pun intended ) of Jones, Lewis and Bryd.

My reponse to those who become defensive toward this article is easy. Don't be upset with me. Be upset with your champion.
