Sinan Samil Sam to defend European title against Danny Williams

29.10 - Hamburg - European heavyweight champion Sinan Samil Sam will face a very dangerous foe right in his first title defense. The 28-year-old Turk must defend his EBU crown against the highly ranked Brit and official challenger Danny Williams.

The Euopean Boxing Union ordered the fight to be held until the beginning of January. The site is not determined yet.

Williams, 27-1 (22 KOs), will be by far the toughest opponent in Sinan Samil Sam’s career so far. The London born fighter is British and Commonwealth Champion since 1999.

He suffered his single loss three and a half years ago against his countryman Julius Francis who he dropped a 12-round decision to. He avenged the loss last year by knocking out Francis in round 4.

Williams is currently ranked #7 by the WBO behind Francois Botha. The WBC ranks him #10 behind Juan Carlos Gomez.

Sinan Samil Sam became European heavyweight champion on October 12 when he knocked out reigning champion Przemylsaw Saleta in round 7 in Schwerin, Germany. During the fight the powerful Turk dropped his opponent four times.

Sam, a former Amateur world champion, is 16-0 with 9 knockouts as a professional.
