Samil Sam, Krasniqi and Regina Halmich fighting tonight
Schwerin - Tonight boxing will return to East Germanys Schwerin for the second time since last October. The spot is on a European heavyweight title defense of Sinan Samil Sam, on a woman world title fight with Playboy model Regina Halmich and on an emotional heavyweight rematch involving Luan Krasniqi and Przemyslaw Saleta.
Sinan Samil Sam vs. Julius Francis
European Heavyweight Championship
Turkish Sinan Samil Sam (237 lb) will defend his European heavyweight title for the second consecutive time against an Englishman when he takes on Julius Francis (254 lb). Sam, 17-0 (10), already knocked out British Danny Williams in February in round 6. He won the EBU crown last October with a 7th round knockout over Polish Przemyslaw Saleta. Francis, 23-10-1 (12), said he seeks for revenge for what Sam did to his countryman Williams. More infos on this fight plus a Tale of the Tape graphic on www.boxing.de.
Regina Halmich vs. Cathy Brown
WIBF Flyweight Championship
In her 28th world title fight Regina Halmich, 41-1 (14), will take on British Cathy Bitch Brown, 10-2 (4). Halmich made headlines recently when she posed nude for the Playboy magazine. Some of her Playboy photos and new shots from Fridays weigh in have been published on www.boxing.de.
Luan Krasniqi vs. Przemyslaw Saleta
Rematch between two former European Heavyweight Champions
Former European heavyweight champion Luan Krasniqi (228 lb) will go for revenge when he takes on Polish Przemyslaw Saleta (229 lb) again. Saleta, 41-5 (21), beat Krasniqi, 22-1 (12), last July by TKO in round 9. At the time of the stoppage Krasniqi was clearly ahead on the scorecards. After Saleta upset Krasniqi he had only a short reign as European champion because he was beaten in his first defense by Samil Sam.
The rematch against Saleta means all or nothing for Krasniqis career. If he wins he may be right on course for another European title shot. In case he loses again he may consider hanging up his gloves. German video interview with Luan Krasniqi on www.boxing.de.
