Battle of undefeated cruisers: Petkovic vs. Simms

14.08 - Munich – Undefeated German cruiserweight contender Alexander Petkovic, 27-0-3 (15), will battle American Michael Simms, 12-0-1 (10), on August 30 in Munich on the undercard of Wladimir Klitschko’s comeback fight.

The 29-year-old Simms may be the last hurdle for the 23-year-old fighter of Hamburg’s Universum stable before a world title shot. Petkovic is ranked WBO #1, WBC #7, IBF #9 and WBA #12.

Another possible opponent for Petkovic’ fight at the Olympic Arena of Munich was former world champion Virgil Hill. Unfortunately after initial talks Hill’s management sent a fax to Universum Box-Promotion saying that he prefers other fights against “easier opponents”.

“I want to thank Virgil Hill for this indirect compliment”, Petkovic said. “But I would have preferred him as opponent. Hill is more predictable inside the ring.”

In the main event in Munich former WBO heavyweight world champion Dr. Wladimir Klitschko will take on Argentine Fabio Moli in a contest for the WBA international title.

Also in action: Former European heavyweight champion Luan Krasniqi and Russian heavyweight prospect Alexander Dimitrenko.
