McBride-Minus headline MSFNNE boxing card at The Roxy

17.07 - BROCKTON, Mass. - Irish heavyweight champion Kevin "The Clones Colossus" McBride (26-4-1, 21 KOs) and Bahamian title-holder Reynaldo Minus (16-11, 14 KOs) battle Friday night, July 26 in the 10-round main event, on the fifth Mohegan Sun FightNight New England series show, at The Roxy nightclub in Boston.

McBride, 29, now lives in Dorchester. The 6-7, 260-pound giant registered a second-round TKO of Gary Winmon (25-7, 17 KOs) in his last match (May 24) and remains on a mission to crack the top 20 world rankings this year.

Minus, 31, has been in the ring with the heavyweight iron - Michael Grant, Shannon Briggs, Danell Nicholson, Jameel McCline, David Izon and Henry Akinwande. Minus' most impressive win was a first-round knockout of Michael Lindblad in 1995. His Swedish opponent was 16-1 at that time and now sports a 22-5 record.

"We've had some great fight cards so far in the Mohegan Sun FightNight New England series and this promises to be the best yet," promoter Rich Cappiello said. "We believe that Kevin McBride is a legitimate world contender. Minus is going to be a good test for him having fought some of the best heavyweights in the world. Our main event will be supported by a very strong undercard featuring middleweight Willie Gibbs."

The MSFNNE show is presented by Cappiello Promotions, in association with Mohegan Sun, Holiday Inn in Randolph and Boston, Metro Ford of Raynham, Budweiser, and Everlast. Cappiello Promotions has an eight-fight deal with Fox Sports Net New England and the July 26th fights will be videotaped and broadcast Sunday afternoon (3:30-5:30 p.m.), August 4.

Also slated to be on the card (in separate bouts) are middleweight "Sir" William "The Gladiator" Gibbs (7-0, 6 KOs), the Philadelphia native and cousin of undisputed world middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins; South Boston super middleweight via Ireland, Martin "The Irish Assassin" Thorton (0-0-1); Haverhill welterweight Larry "The Dream" Greene (0-0-1). All fighters and bouts are subject to change.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. with the first bout slated for 7 p.m. Ticket prices are $65.00 gold ringside, $40.00 ringside, and $25.00 general admission. For more information or to order tickets call (508) 587-5554 or (508) 587-3370. Tickets will also be available at the door.
