Roy Jones, Jr. - Bad Career Move?

By Ricky Town

07.11 - From the startling robbery of Roy Jones, Jr. at the Seoul Korea Olympics to the many so-called unworthy opponents, Roy Jones, Jr. has done it his way.

The announcement of the challenge of John Ruiz for the WBA heavyweight Crown makes one believe that Roy is now doing it another way.

Boxing history is littered with the carcass of once great light heavyweight champions who dared to cross the threshold to challenging the big boys.

The names of Archie Moore, Bob Foster and Michael Spinks (who actually won a heavyweight crown) will always be remembered for their losses to great heavyweight champions than their greatness in the lesser weight class.

Archie Moore's repeated losses to Muhammad Ali, Bob Foster's slaughtering by "Smokin" Joe Frazier and how can we forget Michael Spinks' 90 second knock-out by "Iron" Mike Tyson. All of those fights will forever seal the legacy of these great fighters.

Those fighters were great in their division but chose to climb an even higher mountain only to fall hard to the ground.

Roy Jones, Jr. has the size, skills and natural ability to beat anyone in his division. He does it with such ease that he faces constant criticism for not fighting more worthy opponents.

What does he do, he climbs the ladder of the boxing game and challenge what seems like an easy opponent. He may beat Ruiz and even win against Holyfield. What concerns me is the size of the heavyweights today.

The thought of Roy Jones fighting someone as big and powerful as a Lenox Lewis or a Vladimir Klitsco causes my blood to chill.

You read it here first, Roy Jones, Jr. is making a great mistake by moving up to the heavyweight division. The warning signs are posted all over boxingdom. It starts with two big red words, 'Don King".

Roy Jones, Jr. if you are reading this, "Go back". Your greatness is secured. You are in a class by yourself". Do it for you and not to please blood thirsty fans or the greed of "His Royal Worthlessness", Don King.
